Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
